Chiranjeevi received the award on Thursday at an event in New Delhi, following the announcement of the winners on Republic Day.
New Delhi: On Thursday, veteran actors Konidela Chiranjeevi and Vyjayanthimala Bala received the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honor given for extraordinary and distinguished service.
President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards to 90-year-old Vyjayanthimala and 68-year-old Chiranjeevi at a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Considered one of the greatest actors and dancers of the Indian film industry, Vyjayantimala dominated the Indian screen from the 1950s to the 1960s with films including Devdas, Naya Daur, Aasha, Sadhna, Gunga Jumna , Sangam, and Jewel Thief. He has also starred in several Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Bengali films. Vyjayantimala’s last Hindi film was 1970’s “Ganwaar” and she was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, in 1968. and films in Hindi, Tamil and Kannada. Some of his famous films include Rudra Veena, Indra, Tagore, Swayam Krushi, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Stalin (Stalin) and Gang Leader (Gang Leader). He was last seen on the big screen in 2023’s “Bhola Shankar” and will next be seen in “Vishwambhara”. In 2006, the actor was awarded the Padma Shri, the third highest civilian award.
