ED recovers Rs.25 cr cash at home of Jharkhand minister’s secretary’s

The raid is part of the ongoing investigation into the case of Jharkhand Rural Development Chief Engineer Virendra K. Ram.

On Monday morning, the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at several locations in Ranchi and seized over Rs 25 lakh from the house of Sanjeev Lal, a domestic helper employed by Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam’s private secretary.

Virendra K, chief engineer of the Jharkhand Rural Development Department, was arrested in February 2023 for alleged irregularities in the implementation of government schemes. The raids were carried out as part of the investigation into the Ram case. Law enforcement agencies are conducting raids at several places in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam Sanjeev Lalu, PS received a large amount as housing subsidy. More than Rs 20 crore have been charged so far. Counting is still in progress,” ED officials said.

In 2019, a huge sum of money was seized from one of his subordinates. Later, the law enforcement agencies took up the case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. In February 2023, the ED arrested Virendra K Ram, chief engineer of the Jharkhand rural development department, in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the execution of certain projects.

Apart from raiding the house of Sanjeev Lal’s maid, the ED also searched other places in Ranchi. One such place is the residence of traffic engineer Vikas Kumar.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Deepak Prakash criticized Jharkhand’s ruling alliance of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress,, and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Congress,, and RJD are working to turn Jharkhand into Lutkhand. Today, more than Rs 25 lakhs have been recovered again and belong to the ministers of the ruling party. The people of Jharkhand feel aggrieved today,” said Prakash.
