The Sealdah-bound Kanchanjungha Express collided with a goods train between New Jalpaiguri station and Rangapani station in West Bengal on Monday.
The last two coaches of the Kanchenjunga Express from Agartala were damaged after colliding with a goods train.
Shocked passengers run from the train. The recovery process has begun.
No reports of incidents were received at the time of filing the report. However, local residents who are assisting local authorities in rescue operations said that it cannot be ruled out.
Although there were no reports of casualties, local residents said there were several serious injuries.
The railway company and the government have not released any official information on the number of dead.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed concern over the incident.
– I was shocked to learn about the tragic train accident that took place in Phansidewa area, Darjeeling district. While the news is still awaited, the Kanchenjunga Express was released by the goods train. DM, SP, doctors, ambulances and disaster relief teams rushed to the spot to provide rescue, relief and medical assistance. The Chief Minister said in a statement that war preparations had begun.
