Lok Sabha, Phase 5: polling Upadtes

After witnessing a month-long expansive campaign, Mumbai is set to go to pates on Monday, marking the end of the fifth and final phase of choices in the state.

This time, lakhs of voters from the megacity’s six Lok Sabha constituencies Mumbai North, Mumbai North Central, Mumbai North East, Mumbai North West, Mumbai South, and Mumbai South Central—will cast their votes for as many as 116 campaigners who are in the fray.

Of the total electorate, 53.46 lakh are manly and 45.9 lakh are womanish, whereas 1,039 are ambisexual. Data carried from the collector services also show that of these, at least registered citizens who fall in the 18–19 age group are first-time choosers.

The choosers will be able to exercise their ballot between 7 am and 6 pm at their designated polling cells.

This time, there are 9,904 polling stations across the megacity and the suburban sections. Inclusively, these stations will be equipped with 16,734 ballot units alongside 9,964 VVPAT units, which is an independent system enabling a namer to corroborate their vote. First introduced in 2014, the VVPAT leaves behind a paper trail of the cast vote, which can be traced when reports of EVM tampering crop.

While as numerous as 116 campaigners—iincluding popular faces contended by public and indigenous parties to independent members fighting for a cause—wwill be querying on Monday, the battle in Mumbai has boiled down to the Mahayuti vs. MVA showdown. Of the six constituencies, Mumbai North Central seat will see the loftiest number of 27 campaigners battle it on Monday, followed by 21 campaigners in the North West seat, Mumbai North East seat( 20), Mumbai North( 19), Mumbai South Central(15), and Mumbai South( 14).

With the Election Commission morals stating that no mobile phones can be carried within 100 metres of the polling station to maintain the saintship of the choices, the collectorate has prompted citizens not to carry their phones. More than 70,000 officers have been trained and stationed in the megacities and cities.

While the registered choosers are issued an EPIC ID card, the electorate has also been issued a list of 12 documents, which will be accepted in case they’ve not carried their name ID.

Meanwhile, the quarter collectors said they were eyeing dispatching namer information slips to nearly 90 percent of the registered choosers until Sunday.

This time, the total electorate also comprises 21,665 persons with disabilities, for whom, the quarter administration is slated to give wheelchair-friendly motorcars and hack services in a shot to ferry them to and down from their hearthstone to the polling stations.

While levies have been stationed to help the otherwise abled choosers across polling stations, the collectorate in the suburban quarter will also emplace 613 cabs and vans across 1,106 polling stations.
