A Delhi court on Friday postponed to June 19 the hearing of his bail plea in a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of Rouse Avenue court had recently rejected his bail application and sought seven-day bail on medical grounds.
Kejriwal’s lawyers on Friday filed an application asking the prison authorities to allow his wife Sunita Kejriwal to be present for Kejriwal’s medical examination through video conferencing.
Another relief sought by him is that the association will also express its views in a meeting.
Now, the court has sought a reply from the Tihar Jail superintendent regarding the above application. The hearing will be held on Saturday.
His bail application has been set for June 19, the day his pre-trial custody will end.
Earlier, the court had refused his anticipatory bail while noting that directions for special diagnostic tests had been issued for CM Kejriwal, who appeared before it through video conferencing from Tihar Jail.
Justice Baweja remanded CM Kejriwal in custody till June 19.
A bench of Justice Tushar Mehta and Additional Chief Justice S.V. Raju, representing the Enforcement Directorate (ED), had previously criticised CM Kejriwal’s conduct and cited “misuse” of interim bail for election purposes, holding that the bail application was not maintainable. CM Kejriwal’s legal team, led by senior advocate N Hariharan, had argued that the unexpected bail application was necessary as he has severe diabetes and other health problems.
The ED had alleged that CM Kejriwal was trying to evade extradition and that a medical test could be conducted in prison. CM Kejriwal surrendered to the Tihar Jail authorities on June 2 after his interim bail was terminated by the Supreme Court ahead of the June 1 Assembly elections.
