HYDERABAD: Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL), which had on July 1 asked customers to pay their monthly electricity bills through the power utility’s official website and mobile app citing RBI guidelines, is reportedly planning to print a QR code on utility bills for payment.

Sources said that from next month, consumers will be able to avail QR code bills. Users will be able to pay their bills by scanning the QR code with their mobile phones. Power suppliers said so far the new norms have not affected bill collection. Around 12 lakh consumers had paid their bills as of 10 am on Friday, officials said. Currently, bills can be paid through the company’s website, Bill Desk (PGI), Paytm (PG), TA Wallet, TG/AP Online, MeeSeva, T-Wallet and mobile app via Bill Desk (NACH).

Officials said a meeting with bankers has been set up as part of measures to make it more convenient for customers. Citing RBI guidelines, TGSPDCL said it will not process payments to billers who are not part of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) after July 1.

Service providers like PhonePe, Paytm, Google Pay and other banks have stopped accepting electricity bills from TGSPDCL following RBI directions.
