The bomb threat emails sent to schools in Lucknow on May 13 were the product of a group of junior schoolchildren who ‘accidentally’ shared the emails during a talking session, officials claimed.

The Lucknow police and Uttar Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) have investigated the crime. According to Tej Swaroop Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone), “Chatting during an online gaming session by a group of children aged between 10-11 years went awry when a message of a bomb attack was wrongly forwarded to a private school’s email ID in Lucknow.”

He stated, “Interestingly, the children were all from different states, including Maharashtra, and are not related to one another. The children are innocent, and their identities are kept hidden. These students are unrelated to the identical bomb threats reported at Kanpur and Delhi schools.

A private school got an e-mail with a bomb threat. Following a complaint by the school’s principal, a FIR under the relevant section was lodged. The DCP also stated that to investigate the crime, a surveillance squad and Sushant Golf City police were constituted.

“During the probe, it was found that the children were chatting on a gaming app ‘Discord’ where they wrongly sent the bomb attack mail to the Lucknow school,” said the DCP. The children informed police that they obtained the school ID from a booklet. The DCP further stated that the case has not been concluded yet since the police are still investigating it from many aspects.
