Amaravati: Harish Kumar Gupta has been appointed as the new director general of police (DGP) after the transfer of KV Rajendranath Reddy as director general of police (DGP) yesterday. The Election Commission today issued orders to appoint Harish Kumar Gupta as Deputy Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh. The information has been sent by the Election Commissioner to Chief Secretary Jawahar Reddy.

The Election Commission has directed the Andhra Pradesh government to submit the names of three senior inspectors for the transfer of KV Rajendranath Reddy. Accordingly, the Andhra Pradesh government recommended the names of Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, Harish Kumar Gupta and Madireddy Pratap on their merits. The Election Commissioner appointed Harish Kumar Gupta as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from this list. Harish Kumar Gupta is a 1992 batch IPS officer and is currently serving as Home Minister. On his new appointment, the KPU has directed that the duties of the Deputy Director shall be retained.
