The attack on Slovakia’s PM Robert Fico was denounced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, branding it a “cowardly and dastardly act”.
An attempt on the life of the prime minister of Slovakia on Wednesday resulted in serious injuries.
PM Modi wrote on his X account, expressing horror at the attack: “I’m deeply saddened to learn about the shooting of H.E. Mr. Robert Fico, the prime minister of Slovakia. I fervently hope PM Fico recovers quickly and denounce this cowardly and despicable crime. India is united in support of the Slovak Republic’s citizens.”
Following surgery, the Slovak prime minister’s health is no longer considered life-threatening, according to local media.
The murder attempt has been categorized as politically motivated, according to Matus Sutaj Estok, the interior minister of Slovakia.
Estok declared that the attempt on the life of the victim was “politically motivated and the decision was born right after the presidential election”. For the attack, he laid the blame on “social media hate”.
After attending a government meeting in the town of Handlova, around 150 kilometers northeast of the city, Fico was hurt on Wednesday afternoon. A 71-year-old guy shot him. Witnesses said that as the premier was introducing himself to supporters, the guy shot him many times.
